The Nephron, the kidney’s functional unit, contains the glomerulus for filtration. Each adult kidney contains approximately 200,000 to 1.8 million nephrons, each housing a specialized filtering unit called the glomerulus.
While humans can thrive with one functional kidney, it’s often overlooked that early kidney stress may go unnoticed. Tests like Urine for Micro Albumin (Spot) can detect kidney issues early on.
Albumin, crucial for bodily functions, appearing in urine signals glomerulus dysfunction. Being a Family clinician I come across so many patients with similar scenarios.
This test is underrated but vital, especially for those with diabetes or hypertension, to prevent chronic kidney disease. If you or a loved one have these conditions, consult your healthcare provider about this essential test.
It’s crucial because primary hypertension, which often shows no symptoms, can target the kidneys initially. Similarly, uncontrolled type 2 diabetes or prolonged use of multiple oral drugs can also harm the kidneys. Despite normal urea and creatinine levels in kidney profile reports, significant kidney damage may already be present. Therefore, early detection through tests like Urine for Micro Albumin (Spot) is imperative.
*IMPORTANT NOTE : Ensure to give a proper sample*
- Always remember to give an Early Morning Urine (E.M.U) Sample only – Preferably first void after a goodnights rest of at-least 3 to 4 hrs of uninterrupted sleep.
- Always remember to give a Mid – Stream urine Sample ( Only) – Avoiding collecting the first & Last part of the urine that comes out.
